What it takes to Nurture & Encourage an Innovative Mindset in Children?

Innovation is the propelling force behind every invention, and it is the inventions that make the world progress. No progress would have taken place if no one would have stepped out of the limits of what seemed to be ‘possible.’ But one cannot suddenly grow into an innovative person unless the roots of curiosity, the habit of questioning, and practice of looking beyond the horizons get implanted in the mind at an early age.

At Yuvashakti Model School, one among the leading schools in Sector 3, Rohini, we believe that childhood is the best time for learning, and what a child learns during an early age casts a profound impression on his/her mind. This thereby helps to form the character traits of confidence and creativity in children. Our Principal, Mr Harinder Kumar, opines that every child is special and has the ability to grow into an exceptional mind. All they need is a little encouragement and support. On that note, we are sharing in this article today some simple yet effective ways that the parents can try adopting to nurture and instill an innovative mindset in your kids.

Let your child question everything

Before every answer, comes a question. If your child learns to ask the right question, he/she will also learn to find the answers for it. After all, necessity is the mother of invention, and curiosity is surely the one that nurtures an innovative mind. Hence, never stop your kids from popping up questions despite how trivial or irrelevant they seem to you.

For instance, if your child is wondering about why the moon keeps changing in size every night, go on and try explaining the kid about the process in an age-appropriate manner. This will nourish the curiosity and creativity in the child and will help to foster an innovative mindset in your little one.

Help your kid with the queries patiently

A curious child is always the one with a mind craving for more knowledge. But, at the same, it is also a mind that is sensitive and reflective. At Yuvashakti Model School, one of the top schools in Sector 3, Rohini, Delhi, we understand that answering the seemingly never-ending questions of the kids can sometimes be tiring for the parents. But, we would suggest that you try to be as much patient as you can as a little annoyance from your end might compel the curios minds to hide behind the veil of fright.

Teach them multiple solutions for one problem

If your kid comes to you with one problem, offer them multiple solutions for the same. This will engrave the idea in your kid’s mind that there are always plenty of ways to look at one thing.  Knowing this, your child would grow into a person capable of finding ways out of situations that others would consider a deadlock. Multiple solutions to a single issue also offer the idea that there always remains a possibility to invent one’s own way to solve any problem, leaving the much-tried ones behind. And this faith is much important for any child to carry on their innovative thinking practice.

Give them their own time to think individually

There’s no denying that every child thinks differently, and even the cognitive abilities differ for each one. Hence, there’s no point in trying to impose your own ideas on them. Allow them to think individually and help them in the process. Be a guiding star but never handhold your kids while exploring their ways to a solution.

At Yuvashakti Model School, we believe that every human is a reflection of his/her childhood learning and values. If we teach our children to be inquisitive and innovative, they will more likely grow into the leaders and frontrunners of tomorrow, having the courage to explore their unique path while leaving the much-followed trails behind. And, it is those new paths that keep the course of progress moving. Hence, nurture your kid’s innovative mindset today to help him/her set new benchmarks in the long run.
