Education is the backbone of a Nation’s progress and prosperity. Education is not the amount of information that is put into our minds undigested all our life, we must have life building, man-making, character making assimilation of ideas. “Education is the manifestation of perfection within man”, these impressions of Swami Vivekananda still hold good. In fact education is a formation of certain mental habits and a certain outlooks on life and the world. It has a moral and an intellectual function. Education in true sense enlarges the scope of our Primary instincts and impulses and shows where we can find the most permanent satisfaction. It enables us to have an objective outlook on life and to judge the world without references to our personal prejudices and preferences.
Actually our present education system is a legacy of the British Raj. Today if we impart information but do not prepare the students to ponder over and think it is useless. One of the directive principles stating that the state shall endeavor to provide within a period of ten years from the commencement of the constitution, for free and compulsory education for all the children until they complete the age of fourteen years, must get implemented. This needs to be undertaken at a serious note now. Education prepares a man to act justly, skillfully and magnanimously. Above all our Gurukula System is abhorred because it lays stress on ethical and moral values. I do not say that we should impart education under the shade of the trees and rooms and other paraphernalia are not needed but we must try to educate our children to become good human beings first. Righteous education (Shiksha) indefinitely inculcates righteous culture (Sanskriti) as the motto of Yuvashakti Model School (Shiksha Aur Sanskriti) delivers The new education policy recommends introduction of a National curriculum at school level with special emphasis on women education and implementation of multidimensional study system, examination reforms and establishment of job oriented stream line of studies. Sources of educational policies highly depend upon availability of committed persons with a talent to enhance knowledge. Only healthy and sound elementary schooling will tend to generate decent citizens with moral strength. Thus ultimately the school education must be manned by True Educationists who could read the pulse of the nation. It must be designed and imparted in such a manner that could emphasis
on enhancement of moral values and ethical behavior in society.
